John A. Roebling Suspension Bridge, update on new painting by S'anna

John A Roebling Suspension Bridge
8 x 10
Oil on Museum Quality Panel
I was able to spend a good deal of Sunday morning working in the garden. It felt really good to get some of it cleaned up. With that behind me, I moved on to the studio for a few afternoon hours. The photo above is the progress that was made yesterday. I hope to get back to this piece on Tuesday, it needs a little drying time, and be able to post the final results on Wednesday.

I am really happy that I took the time to work on this subject. It was one I put off for quite a while, not totally sure why, but now that its underway, I 've gotten totally into it. Would love to hear what you think about the progress.

John A. Roebling Suspension Bridge, new painting by S'anna

work in progress
8 x 10
Oil on Museum Quality Panel

This is just a quick post to share what is on the easel right now. I have thought about painting this local landmark for a couple of years, but never seemed to get around to it. There were always so many other commitments. With eleven days left before I return to school and the classroom, now just seems the right time. I had taken a number of photos and a few quick sketches this past winter while near the bridge. There had been a lot of rain and the river was really muddy, but the sky was so clean. this made for really great contrast in the photos. Yesterday I started working from those photos and quick sketches and notes. I put in the foundation for the muddy water and main supports for the bridge and I"m satisfied with the way it is looking. Would love to know what you think.
Hope you will check back on the progress of this new piece. I plan on working on it this afternoon after I get back in from the garden,(really need to take advantage of the 75 degree temperature before it warms up).

Have a Great Sunday!!

Watergate Bay, a new painting by S'anna

oil painting of watergate Bay and surrounding beach
Watergate Bay
16 x 20
Oil on stretched Canvas
Watergate Bay is on the North Coast of Cornwall, about 3 miles from Newquay. The bay and beach is set at the bottom of steep cliffs, Trevlegue Head to the south and Stem Point in the north with the Atlantic Ocean in front. At low tide the beach at Watergate Bay becomes a vast expanse of unbroken golden sand backed by high cliffs which means you can still find a quiet piece of sand to yourself.

I'm ready to go anytime,
breezes coming in off the Atlantic,
open expanse of beach not packed with tourist (like myself),
When does my flight leave?

Climbing Roses, a new painting by S'anna

I was able to finish this piece this morning.
It was great outside; cool temperatures with a gentle breeze.
Opened the studio windows and truly enjoyed the morning.
I decided to slightly change the title of this piece. With the roses climbing all over
the old stucco walls,
"Climbing Roses"
seemed a more appropriate title.

This piece will be on display in Studio 803A
at the
Pendleton Art Center
this coming Final Friday.
I hope you can stop-by for some refreshments and great conversation.
