The contrast of the dark to bright colors in nature always holds me. I love trying to capture this contrast in the studio. They are the best here in the Midwest when heavy storms roll in or at a winter sunset. The smog and pollution here in Cincinnati during the summer interferes with the intensity of the colors.
The early morning sunrises during the winter are great up here on the hill. The bare trees allow the sunlight to come through. Usually in the summer I don't get the morning sunlight until about 11:00.
The painting below is the first of at least two of this sunrise. The smaller trees that are in the foreground were cut down two weeks ago. I will miss them and the great shade they provided, but they had been infested with the Emerald Green Borer. Nature is always changing and sometimes we humans help it along.
