Threatening Sky

The intensity of an in coming storm, the winds picking up, the earthy smell of the charged air is like energy to me. I love to feel the air blow against me. According to some older forms of medicine this trait identifies me, helps to make me who I am. I'm not sure that is true, but if know while others are scurrying to find shelter, I'm just standing there enjoying it.

The above picture was taken with my iPhone, and doesn't pickup on all the detail in the sky. Once the oils have dried enough I'll be taking it out to get it photographed. Today is really overcast, not the best for photographing, if the sun peeks out a little in this afternoon I'll try again.

Burnished Sky, bright new Sunset by S'anna

Fine Art Suzzanna Frank
6 x6 Oil on Museum Panel

On our recent trip to the Southwest one of the places we toured outside of Moab was a Movie Museum.  I was surprised to see how many science fiction movies had been filmed in the area. Movies like Planet of the Apes had been filmed in  Monument Valley.  When the sun was setting the surrounding desert took on an unreal feeling, making it the perfect place to film these types of movies.

From Old to New

What better way to spend a dull, gray morning than planning this years changes to the garden. I love Rosemary and cook with it all year long. This winter was hard on one of my bushes and it is now on the compost heap. Trying something new; taking root cuttings from my other bush and starting to root them. Not tried Rosemary before, supposedly I can do the same with lavender.

Started with cuttings from my older bush.

Pulled off the leaves from the bottom of the stems and saved them on a paper towel to dry.

Coated each stem with a rooting hormone.

Inserted them into the jars on the kitchen window sill.  Recommend changing the water once a week in order to prevent root rot.

Best part is that my whole kitchen smells like fresh rosemary.

Keep you posted as to how his works

Threatening Sky

How do you respond to thunderstorms?  I love the changes as a storm approaches, the increase in the air and that unique smell that comes before a summer storm. I remember as a child we always took our summer vacation on Lake Cumberland. My dad loved to fish and there was always the swimming. Each evening, just as we were leaving for dinner the storm would hit. There was always lots of thunder and lighting to go with the rain. It never lasted very long and it made the air clean and sweet smelling for at least a little while.

I started the above painting two days ago. It is of a summer storm coming in just as the sun is setting.

What are some of your memories of summer storms? I hope they are good ones.
